I went to this really great science museum and spent the whole afternoon there by myself, running around like a little kid and playing with all the hands-on exhibits. I had a little too much fun.
This thing was really cool for demonstrating how erosion works...
I want to find a copy of this book in English:
It's full of letters that children wrote to Einstein.
This was one of the few written in English:
A three-way mirror and a camera can offer hours of entertainment
this one was cool too
There's no point to this next picture except to remind me of what it is...Remember those rooms (there was one at Sesame Place) where a flash goes off every few seconds and it freezes a shadow of you on the wall? Anyway, there was a group of German guys who walked into the room and didn't know what it did so they left. Boy, were they missing out! I had a blast in there! It's just too bad you can't take a picture of your shadow. If you could you would have seen how cool this one was:
Learning how lenses work...
I love hands on learning. I've seen this a million times in science books but nothing got the point across quite like this.
The magical floating ball...
I LOVED this! it was just a panel mounted on an angle that you could pivot around depending on where the sun was. It was attached to a fountain and you could watch the water shoot higher the more you pointed it towards the sun. I didn't explain that very well, but it was a great demonstration of solar power.
There was actually a whole section dedicated to alternative energy.
Solar thermal
Look! I'm standing on Spain! (see Italy in the background? It's a big map.)
I have ALWAYS wanted to go in a butterfly house!
THEN! to top things off...they have this whole traveling exhibit on the arctic/global warming!!
To get into the main exhibit you have to watch a video that asks you if you can handle the cold...then, if you are willing, they walk you through a giant freezer so you can feel what it's like in the arctic...ooh, cool. And you can sign up to be a polar cadet. yeah!
It was actually pretty funny. But I braved the cold. brrrrrrr
Back outside...
Up the observation tower.
The human sun dial. It was actually 4:30p when I took this picture:
My and my pal Einstein:
